What Makes a Gearbox Last Longer

 

This housing is the core component of a speed reducer. Reducer housing processing from our factory provides a precise enclosure for gears and bearings. The typical size is 50 mm outer diameter. We use 6061-T6 aluminum, with tensile strength above 310 MPa and yield strength above 275 MPa. Bearing hole roundness is ≤0.005 mm, cylindricity is ≤0.008 mm, and coaxiality is ≤ φ0.015 mm. The tolerance grade is IT6 (ISO 286-8). The surface is anodized, with a coating thickness of 8–12 μm and hardness ≥350 HV.

 

How We Control the Bearing Fit

 

Bearing holes are machined to H6 or H7 grade. Reducer housing processing ensures a fit gap of 0–0.015 mm between the hole and the bearing outer ring. Bearing radial runout is controlled within 0.01 mm, extending bearing life. Oil seal mounting holes comply with ISO 6194 standards, and surface roughness is Ra 0.4 μm, ensuring a reliable seal and preventing oil leaks. Every housing is checked with a CMM, measuring coaxiality between the bearing hole and spigot to ±0.002 mm accuracy.

Cooling and Temperature Control

 

Cooling ribs can be added to the housing surface. Reducer housing processing can increase the cooling area by 25–30% compared to a smooth housing, reducing oil temperature by 5–8°C. After heat treatment and anodizing, the product remains stable from -40°C to +120°C. Each housing undergoes an air leak test at 0.6 MPa, with a maximum leak rate of 1 cc per minute, meeting IP67 protection requirements. Properly manufactured housings keep your gearbox running longer.

This housing is suitable for planetary gearboxes, harmonic drive housings, industrial robot joint gearboxes, and servo motor reducers. Raw materials are inspected before entering the warehouse. First-piece inspection and regular spot checks are performed. Oil channels are drilled using high-pressure internal coolant tools, leaving no burrs inside and keeping the oil path clear.
